The Spanish Navy are trained in search and rescue submarines in MazarrónLa Armada española se adiestra en salvamento y rescate de submarinos en Mazarrón

 

During three days, from 16 to 19 October, the Navy has conducted in waters of Cartagena, the ‘Carthage 2012’ exercise aimed at the use of the media and national procedures of search and rescue submarines. The exercise included operations of location and rescue of a submarine damaged, simulating the successive stages of action and deploying naval units of location and rescue.

 

By the Navy have participated the submarine ‘Galerna’, the ‘Douro’ minehunting, the rescue vessel and rescue ‘Neptune’, the patrol vessel ‘rate’, a helicopter SH 3D of the 5th squadron of the Navy’s fleet of aircraft and personnel of the older States of the force action maritime and submarine Flotilla. The society for rescue and maritime safety agency (SASEMAR) has collaborated with ‘Clara Campoamor’ and ‘Mimosa’ rescue vessels.

 

One of the objectives of the ‘Carthage 2012’ exercise was to improve coordination between agencies, units of the army and civilian agencies in the event of a real emergency on a submarine course.

 

Loss of contact with the submarine

 

During Wednesday, October 17, the ‘Galerna’ submarine landed on the seabed in the waters of Mazarrón, pretending to be injured, and started a search and rescue buoy. After receiving the beacon signal, he warned of the possible incident and broke the procedure of localization and the submarine rescue.

 

In order to establish communications with the submarine, was sent a helicopter from the fleet of aircraft of the Navy. Once confirmed your State, the Navy, in coordination with SASEMAR, dispatched to the area to the ‘Douro’ minehunting, the rescue vessel and rescue ‘Neptune’ and the ‘Mimosa’ rescue vessel.After fixing the position of the affected ship, recognized the helmet with unmanned underwater vehicles of the ‘Douro’ and the ‘Neptune’ Navy ships.

 

During the manoeuvre the exhaust of the manning of the submarine rescue sluice enlisted also boats with divers, medical staff and hyperbaric chambers to assist crew if necessary. In the reflotado of the submarine divers of the ‘Neptune’ connected air hoses to the submarine and pumped air ballast tanks from the ship for search and rescue of the Navy with the purpose to expel water from the ballasts. To dislodge the water in these tanks is gradually lightened the weight of the submarine, getting it to emerge to the surface.

Durante tres días, del 16 al 19 de octubre, la Armada ha llevado a cabo en aguas de Cartagena, el ejercicio ‘Cartago 2012’ orientado al empleo de los medios y procedimientos nacionales de salvamento y rescate de submarinos. El ejercicio incluyó operaciones de localización, salvamento y rescate de un submarino siniestrado, simulando las sucesivas fases de actuación y desplegando las unidades navales de localización y rescate.

Por parte de la Armada han participado el submarino ‘Galerna’, el cazaminas ‘Duero’, el buque de salvamento y rescate ‘Neptuno’, el patrullero ‘Tarifa’, un helicóptero SH 3D de la 5ª escuadrilla de la Flotilla de Aeronaves de la Armada y personal de los Estados Mayores de la Fuerza de Acción Marítima y de la Flotilla de Submarinos. La Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima (SASEMAR) ha colaborado con los buques de salvamento ‘Clara Campoamor’ y ‘Mimosa’.

Uno de los objetivos del ejercicio ‘Cartago 2012’ era mejorar la coordinación entre las unidades de la Armada y los organismos y agencias civiles en el caso de un supuesto real de emergencia en un submarino.

Pérdida de contacto con el submarino

Durante el miércoles 17 de octubre, el submarino ‘Galerna’ se posó en el fondo marino en aguas de Mazarrón, simulando estar accidentado, y largó una boya de salvamento y rescate. Tras recibir la señal de la radiobaliza, se alertó del posible incidente y se desencadenó el procedimiento de localización y salvamento del submarino.

Con el fin de establecer comunicaciones con el submarino, se envió un helicóptero de la Flotilla de Aeronaves de la Armada. Una vez confirmado su estado, la Armada, en coordinación con SASEMAR, envió a la zona al cazaminas ‘Duero’, al buque de salvamento y rescate ‘Neptuno’ y al buque de salvamento ‘Mimosa’.Tras fijar la posición de la nave siniestrada, se reconoció el casco con vehículos submarinos no tripulados de los buques de la Armada ‘Neptuno’ y ‘Duero’.

En la maniobra el escape de la dotación del submarino por la esclusa de salvamento se alistaron también embarcaciones con buceadores, personal médico y cámaras hiperbáricas para asistir a la dotación en caso de necesidad. En el reflotado del submarino los buzos del ‘Neptuno’  conectaron mangueras de aire a los tanques de lastre del submarino y  bombeado aire desde el buque de salvamento y rescate de la Armada con la finalidad de expulsar el agua de los lastres. Al desalojar el agua de estos depósitos, se aligera progresivamente el peso del submarino, consiguiendo que emerja a la superficie.
