La celebración del Congreso Internacional sobre “Felipe II y Almazarrón. La construcción local de un imperio global” ha resultado, a todas luces, “un revulsivo cultural nunca visto en el municipio por la excelente calidad de los ponentes que durante tres días se han dado cita en Mazarrón, así como por las decenas de historiadores, estudiantes y científicos que han quedado sinceramente encantados con la celebración de este encuentro con el que hemos puesto en valor nuestra identidad, nuestra historia y nuestro patrimonio”, ha destacado orgulloso el Alcalde de Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo.
Además, “no se podía haber realizado un mejor estreno para la Casa de la Cultura que con este exitoso congreso. La inauguración, entre comillas, de este edificio dedicado a todos los mazarroneros merecía un honor como este”. Palabras que el primer edil ha expresado con satisfacción y con gran seguridad después de escuchar a Bernard Vincent, uno de los más reputados e importantes historiadores del siglo XX, decir de Mazarrón que “es un lugar inagotable que ofrece infinitas posibilidades de estudio a investigadores e historiadores”.
“Estas palabras son el mejor ejemplo de que esto sólo acaba de comenzar. A pesar de que el congreso representa casi el fin de la conmemoración del 440 Aniversario de la concesión del Privilegio de Villa, se abre ante nosotros un futuro lleno de nuevas apuestas culturales, educativas y sociales”, ha comentado Ginés Campillo, quien ha querido agradecer enormemente el “gran trabajo de la Universidad de Murcia y su facultas de Letras, el Campus Mare Nostrum, Red Columnaria, Fundación CAJAMURCIA, Obra Social ´La Caixa´, Fundación Centro de Estudios Históricos e Investigaciones Locales Región de Murcia e Hispanofilia”.
Las jornadas y ponencias, que se desarrollaron con gran éxito, han dado una nueva visión de la Mazarrón de la época del Privilegio, a la par que también ha ofrecido una visión que ha trascendido de lo local a lo global en lo que se refiere al imperio del monarca Felipe II, donde no se ponía el sol. Pero no sólo las conferencias han supuesto un gran éxito, sino que las comunicaciones presentadas por los estudiantes e investigadores han generado intensos e inteligentes debates que han respondido a muchas cuestiones pero que también han planteado otras nuevas. “Preguntas que a buen seguro se contestarán en próximos congresos internacionales que esperamos celebrar con el mismo éxito”.
