Club Taekwondo Mazarron has returned to shine with their own light in a first level sports competition. On this occasion was in the Spain Championship in Cadet category held last weekend in the town of Gandia (Valencia). The good performance of the mazarroneros Rubén García and Antonio Méndez contributed to the Murcian selection to be runner-up in this sports event, stood above other regions with a greater number of Federal licenses.
Rubén García carried out a magnificent performance in the weighing mode pen – less of 45 kg–in which hung the runner-up silver. Round after round, Garcia showed great physical form on tatami reaching the desired end that could not be undone by the representative of the Valencia community. It was the metal that hung around his neck Antonio Méndez who, like his partner, exceeded all the opponents until in the semifinals he was defeated by the representative of Catalonia in the form of heavy weight – over 65 kg – Bronze.
The team champion of this Cadet Championship was the regional selection of Euskadi, followed by Murcia. The podium so full the autonomous community of Catalonia in third position. Also, it should be noted that the two mazarroneros athletes will follow, after the good results achieved in this competition, showing the category of high performance athletes. El Club Taekwondo Mazarrón ha vuelto a brillar con luz propia en una competición deportiva de primer nivel. En esta ocasión fue en el Campeonato de España en categoría Cadete celebrado el pasado fin de semana en la localidad de Gandía (Valencia). La buena actuación de los mazarroneros Rubén García y Antonio Méndez contribuyó a que la Selección Murciana quedase subcampeona en esta cita deportiva, situándose por encima de otras comunidades autónomas con un mayor número de licencias federativas.
Rubén García realizó una magnífica actuación en la modalidad de peso pluma -menos de 45 kilogramos- en la que se colgó la plata de subcampeón. Ronda tras ronda, García mostró una gran forma física sobre el tatami llegando a la deseada final en la que no pudo deshacerse del representante de la Comunidad Valencia. De bronce fue el metal que se colgó al cuello Antonio Méndez que, al igual que su compañero, superó a todos los contrincantes hasta que en la semifinal fue derrotado por el representante de Cataluña en la modalidad de peso pesado –más de 65 kilogramos-.
El equipo campeón de este campeonato en categoría Cadete fue la selección autonómica de Euskadi, seguida de la murciana. El pódium lo completo la comunidad Autónoma de Cataluña en tercera posición. Hay también que destacar que los dos atletas mazarroneros seguirán, tras los buenos resultados cosechados en esta competición, ostentando la categoría de Deportistas de Alto Rendimiento. Desde la concejalía de Deportes felicitar al Club Taekwondo Mazarrón y sus integrantes por este nuevo éxito deportivo.
